The Real Roots of the Emerging Church – Part 1

This Christian documentary film The Real Roots of the Emergent Church will take an honest look at the leaders of the Emerging Church movement such as Brian McLaren, Doug Pagitt, Tony Jones, Rob Bell, Tony Campolo, Steve Chalke, Peter Rollins, Dan Kimball, Richard Rohr, Phyllis Tickle, Spencer Burke and others. Who are they and what are they teaching? Become familiar with the postmodern Emergent Church and its popular tactic of literary deconstruction applied to the Bible. This film takes an in-depth look at what the Emerging Church believes concerning the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Scriptures, absolute truth, hell, homosexuality, mysticism, contemplative prayer, other religions, and eschatology in comparison to the Bible. Much more than candles and couches!

Subjects of this film were contacted for direct interviews. Doug Pagitt, Tony Jones and others were contacted in April 2011. No response. At a Love Wins book signing, Rob told us he would be willing to do an interview and to contact his church which was done several times with no response. We do not fault them for that knowing they are all probably very busy people. But for this reason we have resorted to their own public statements. This film is our way of joining the conversation.

Participants: Eric Ludy, Joe Schimmel, Chris Rosebrough, Bob DeWaay, Gary Gilley, Ray Yungen, Robert LeBus, Jay Peters, James Sundquist, and Elliott Nesch.

A WONDERFUL DECEPTION: The Further New Age Implications of the Emerging Purposr Driven Movement  By Warren Smith. Five years after writing Deceived on Purpose: The New Age Implications of the Purpose-Driven Church, former New Age follower Warren B. Smith continues to reveal how Rick Warren and other Christian leaders-wittingly or unwittingly-are leading the church into a spiritual trap. Rick Warren’s Broad Way examines church metaphors, concepts, and beliefs that are essentially the same as those being used in today’s New Age teachings. And while biblical prophecy is being minimized and explained away, the “New Science” is being used to prepare the world-and the church-to accept a new spirituality and a false New Age Christ. This book explains how all the puzzle pieces are in place for the “strong delusion” described in 2 Thessalonians. Rick Warren’s Broad Way pierces right into the heart of this deception while preparing believers in Jesus Christ to effectively stand against it.

FAITH UNDONE: The Emerging Church…A New Reformation or an End-Time Deception By Roger Oakland. Is the emerging church movement just another passing fad, a more contemporary approach to church, or a bunch of disillusioned young people looking for answers? In fact, it is actually much broader and is influencing Christianity to a significant degree. Grounded in a centuries-old mystical approach, this movement is powerful, yet highly deceptive, and it draws its energy from practices and experiences that are foreign to traditional evangelical Christianity. The path that the emerging church is taking is leading right into the arms an interfaith perspective that has prophetically profound ramifications.

A TIME OF DEPARTING By Ray Yungen. A revealing account of a New Age spirituality that has infiltrated much of the church today. Exposes the subtle strategies to compromise the gospel message with Eastern mystical practices cloaked under evangelical terminology and wrappings. Topics include: Contemplative Prayer, Yoga, Labyrinths, Spiritual Directors, Reiki, Desert Fathers, Spiritual Formation, Spiritual Disciplines, Purpose Driven and the Emerging Church. Some questions this book answers … What exactly is contemplative spirituality and how is it New Age? Who are some of the major proponents of contemplative prayer and how are their teachings entering the church? Is Rick Warren s Purpose Driven paradigm promoting the contemplative prayer movement? What is wrong with Christian yoga? What is the emerging church really all about and why is it spiritually dangerous?

  NEW AGE/ECUMENISM/ONE WORLD RELIGION RESEARCH

“One Church for One World.” World Council of Churches , 1948

“…change will probably be radical, if not total. Those whose lives are dedicated to serving the Church of the past will resist these suggestions with a vehemence that always emerges from threatened hierarchies and dying institutions…. But the seeds of resurrection are present in the exile, and in time those seeds will sprout and bloom. When they do, we will once again be able to see continuity between the Church of the past and the purged and opened church of the future.” Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong, Why Christianity Must Change or Die

World Council Of Churches
Many Christians who still hold membership in denominations which are a part of the WCC, which is about par for the course in this day and age. With their involvement in goddess worship, paganism, ecumenism and every other conceivable form of deviancy, The WCC is one of the worst of the apostate bodies claiming to be Christian. If only God’s people would wake up and see how the world council of churches is using the churches to destroy the very foundations of faith and freedom.

The World Christian Movement
While we cannot lose sight of the fact that many souls will be genuinely saved through the efforts of some involved in the WCM. Yet we cannot remain blind to the fact that there is a great deception underfoot, as prophesied by Jesus in Matthew 24:24.. Among them will be the ecumenical stance that the Movement has embraced, including the Roman Catholic influences.

***

Billy Graham
William Franklin Graham, Jr. has been, arguably, the best known, best loved and most influential evangelical during the approximately 50 years he has been in the public forum. However, among other issues many have pointed to him as the father of modern ecumenism, which, sadly, is true.. Billy Graham put the stamp of approval on the false gospel preached by the Roman Catholic church and has undoubtedly caused many to think that Roman Catholicism must be true Christianity. This is not the only area where the Rev. Graham has compromised the Gospel.

Holding Hands With The Pope
Leaders in both camps are jointly signing ecumenical documents representing a combined effort to “bury the hatchet”, ignore important theological differences which have existed for centuries, and work together as “teammates” instead of antagonists. Many odd “winds of doctrine” are blowing about, threatening to sweep God’s people away from their time-honored principles and God-revealed truths.

The Two Faces of Catholicism
On the one hand the Vatican has made a concerted effort since 1965 to bring their “separated brothers back home to “holy mother the church.” On the other hand the Catholic church fraternizes .. joins in prayer with … and actively endorses other religions.. Pope John Paul II’s bizarre involvement with and approval of other anti-Christian religions has caused even many Catholics to call Pope John Paul II the Anti Pope…. However many Protestants see this as a much more sinister sign.

The Scriptural View

The Inclusiveness of Jesus
It’s true that the inclusiveness of Jesus was extraordinary. Unlike his religious contemporaries, Jesus included among his followers those who were generally excluded from religious life, if not polite society, people such as tax-collectors, “sinners,” lepers, and women. Yet, the inclusiveness of Jesus was not of the “come as you are” sort. Jesus offered new, transformed life in the kingdom of God, not acceptance of all people as they were in their broken, sinful state.

Should Christians Join In Interfaith Communion?
There is great social pressure today to conform to whatever cultural liberals decide is “politically correct”

Drawing the Line
We do not, can not, believe in ‘peace at all costs’ nor draw the line over every disagreement.” We are followers of the man who called the Pharisees white-washed tombs and drove the money- changers out of the temple but ate with tax-gatherers and sinners and called us to be peacemakers.

Why Ecumenism Cannot Produce the Unity of the Faith
In Ephesians 4, Paul calls us to preserve unity while we seek a perfect unity that does not yet exist. How we are to go about this is very confusing to many Christians. Do we seek to unify all organizations calling themselves “Christian?” Did Paul envision a visible, universal church which was highly efficient, world-wide, hierarchical and headed by one man? Does the fact that numerous “Christian” organizations exist negate the possibility that the unity of which Paul wrote will come to pass?

The U.N. Plan for Your “Sustainable” Community ***This has had recent update***

These three updates illustrate United Nations’ “progress” toward implementation of  its Marxist agenda:

Note: This global contract binds all nations to the collective vision of “sustainable development.” They must commit to pursue the three E’s of “sustainability”: Environment, Economy and Equity referring to the UN blueprint for environmental regulations, economic manipulation, and social equity.

Marching Toward Global Solidarity

“The new generation…[has] a deeper sense of solidarity as people of the planet than any generation before them…. On that rests our hope for our global neighborhood.”[1] Report of The UN Commission on Global Governance.

“Welfare depends on the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind.”[2] Federico Mayor, then Director General of UNESCO

Millard Fuller, President of Habitat for Humanity, fit right into this interfaith dialogue. Like other emerging leaders in the neo-Christian movement, he redefined Scriptures to “prove” his message:

“When Jesus launched His ministry 2000 years ago, He said, ‘We must repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’ In English, that sort of connotes feeling sorry for getting caught. But in the Greek, we read that what He really said was to metamorphose. Metamorphose is what a butterfly becomes when it metamorphoses out of a little fuzzy caterpillar…. Change your whole way of thinking, because the new order of the spirit is confronting and challenging you. … The only way we will achieve human solidarity in dealing with it is to have a completely new way of thinking.”[4]

*****“This “new way of thinking” has already permeated every segment of society: education, business, government, and the church growth movement, including Purpose-Driven churches. Pushing transformation in all these sectors are the leadership training programs that pursue the vision of management gurus such as Peter Drucker, Peter Senge, and Ken Blanchard. The core of their teaching is “general systems theory” or “systems thinking.” In short, everything is interconnected, therefore all is One and all divisions and boundaries must be eliminated in order to establish the “Global Neighborhood,” i.e. New World Order. Emerging Church leaders like Brian McLaren call it “The Kingdom of God.”

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

An Old Testament king gave us a wonderful model prayer. When enemy forces threatened to attack God’s people, Jehoshaphat simply turned His eyes and heart to His faithful Lord and expressed his faith:

“O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? …‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will … cry out to You in our affliction….

For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, BUT OUR EYES ARE UPON YOU.”  2 Chronicles 20:6-12

i had not had an opportunity to comment about your library and resources pages.my time on the internet has been very sparse lately as the lord has opened up areas that are especially needed for our local congregation.

i just wanted to say thank you for going thru the effort of providing these very precious and exceptional links. having them all in one place like this is wonderful

may the lord continue to bless you and keep you, dear sister.

    • Very welcome, Jon. I remember spending hours, weeks, months looking up ‘whatevers’ when I first started doing research-one of the things that I wanted to do on blog is have a kind of ‘one stop, shop all’ to save people time! I’m always adding ..and adding, lol and I hope that it isn’t too overwhelming for folks. I’d love to have all the Puritan authors in alphabetical order, maybe hire someone to do that one of these days!!! I have had a few people ask me if there was anything else I could ‘stuff’ on this blog (being sarcastic)…hey, it’s a research blog, so yea, much more and you can look forward, count on many more additions!! Thank you so much for alerting people to the pages and if there is anything you or others would like to see in the Library or on the Research page or in Left Sidebar that isn’t there…let me know, you know I’ll add it!!!!! Lord Bless you Jon and as always, keeping you and family in prayers.
